Forum on Artifacts and Archives

10 January — UP Baguio is hosting a forum on artifacts and archives. Brought to you by the joint efforts of the Department of History and Philosophy (DHPh), Museo Kordilyera, and the Cordillera Studies Center, the forum will welcome Regalado Trota Jose of the Philippine National Historical Society and Dr. Cristina Martinez-Juan of the School of Oriental and African Studies as the resource speakers.

Mr. Jose’s discussion is on “Locating Cordillera Artifacts in Spanish Museums” and “Preliminary Navigation through Historic Sources in Spanish Websites: The Portal for Spanish State Archives (PARES) and the Spanish National Library”.

Dr. Martinez-Juan’s discussion is on “Digital Repatriation of a Lost Archive of the Spanish Pacific: The Library of the Convent of San Pablo (Manila, 1762)”.

Interested participants may join this forum on artifacts and archives on Monday, 16 January, from 1:30 to 3:00 pm at the Museo Kordilyera Reception Hall in UP Baguio. The forum will only have limited slots. To register, please send an email to museokordilyera.upbaguio@up.edu.ph. 

A Call to Filipino Scholars
At a recently concluded forum at Museo Kordilyera yesterday, Filipino/a scholars Regalado Trota Jose and Cristina Juan calls on Filipino young scholars and students to conduct research in the archives and museums in Spain and the UK. There’s a wealth of materials that needs to be uncovered. With the ease of technology, archival materials, historical documents and material culture – all these can be digitally repatriated to the Philippines for scholars to study. The inspired talk strongly encouraged Filipinos to take on research on these repositories that can now be accessed online, and in-depth research would entail planned visits to the archives. We thank our scholars for generously sharing these resources.
